Reading the products
| Product | Instrument | Cycle | What it shows |
|---|---|---|---|
| GeoColour + Lightning | MTG-I FCI | 10 min | True colour by day, an infrared and city-lights blend by night, with Lightning Imager accumulated flash area overlaid. The primary all-hours situational product. |
| Convection RGB | MSG SEVIRI | 15 min | Vigorous, small-ice-topped convection appears bright yellow; deep but less intense cloud remains white or red. |
| Rapidly Developing Thunderstorms | MSG SEVIRI | 15 min | Automatically detected and tracked convective cells outlined over the 10.8 µm infrared image, colour-coded by phase of the storm life cycle. Nothing is drawn when no cells are being tracked. |
| K-Index instability | MSG GII | 15 min | Satellite-retrieved K-Index in clear air. A useful cross-check on the WRF CAPE fields. |
| Water Vapour 6.2 µm | MSG SEVIRI | 15 min | Upper-tropospheric moisture. Dark bands are dry, sinking air; the sharp edges between dark and bright trace the jet stream and short waves. |
| Airmass RGB | MSG SEVIRI | 15 min | Separates warm, moist tropical air (green) from cold, dry polar and stratospheric air (blue and red). Red streaks mark tropopause folds ahead of developing cut-off lows. |
| Infrared 10.5 µm | MTG-I FCI | 10 min | Brightness temperature. The coldest, whitest tops are the highest and generally the most active. |
| Dust RGB | MTG-I FCI | 10 min | Lifted dust shows magenta, thin high cloud black, thick cloud red-brown. Also a good low-cloud and fog discriminator overnight. |
| True Colour | MTG-I FCI | 10 min | Unenhanced visible imagery. Daylight only. |
| Fire Radiative Power | MTG-I FCI | 10 min | Detected active fires and their radiative power over the GeoColour background. |
